Today in class we presented our Visual Inventories. The feedback I got was not to do a monochromatic color scheme and go with either the warm colors or the contrasting ones. I also got tips on making sure that any pictures on the site aren't too sad.
We then had a brief demo on Axure.

Week 10 Outside of Class
This weekend I got in contact with TreeTops Rescue and they answered my questions. They said that the main goal of their website is to get people to adopt their rescues. They do take in animals other than cats and dogs. They currently have a couple of goats and alpacas up for adoption. They have about 25-30 volunteers, but it fluctuates. Their target audience is people or families that have a stable income and are able to provide a good and loving home for these animals. Their main clients are families that have around an average income.
I also created my visual inventory.
I also created my visual inventory.
I also created my development plan.
- the logo is in a place that you would never know that its the logo
- I want to redo the logo and make sure to place it in the top left corner
- the navigation on the left side of the site contains way too many links
- I want to organize these links into 5 or 6 main navigation links
- the whole website is in Comic Sans
- I will find better typefaces to give the website a more professional look
- there is no main focus on the home page
- I want to have the main focus be on their animals that need to be adopted - possibly have a big photo on the home page showing what animals need adopted
- there are too many things competing for your attention on the home page
- I want to create a sense of hierarchy within the page so that it is obvious which object you should look at first

Week 10B
Today in class we picked our non-profit site and started doing research on them. I decided to do TreeTops Animal Rescue. This is their site link http://www.treetopsrescue.org. These are some sites that are similar to TreeTops.

I also created my questions to ask my non-profit.

What is the main goal of your website?
Other than cats and dogs, do you take in other animals?
About how many volunteers do you have?
Who is your target audience?
Who are your main clients? Families...couples...single people....wealthy people...etc?

Week 10 Outside of Class
Outside of class I read "Visual Inventory" on danielmall.com. These are my notes:
- instead of asking how a site should look, we should ask how a site should feel
- Established conventions are a crucial part of design that’s easy for people to interact with
- creating something from scratch takes a lot of time
- Visual Inventory is pulling aspects from different sites to show what the website could look like

Week 8B
Today we critiqued our websites.
These are the notes/ feedback that we got from our critique today:
• Contest page should have circles instead of square images
• Hide the illustrations on Attractions when it goes to mobile
• Align center like the apple? or keep some left aligned?
• Change image order on the Attractions page (shrink images when becoming responsive)
• Home page- make them links with images instead of having to click on the "click to view more" text
• Have a 3 column system for schedule page like the attractions page
• Center "Schedule of Events" --- to keep the center alignment
• Image replacement for directions so that when you are at mobile it gives a (live text)
• More line spacing in body copy
• Boring nav for sub pages--- change it up!
Overall, it was a good critique and my group worked really hard.

Week 8A
Today in class we had a brief lecture on Favicons, Meta Tags, and how to write comments. Then we had the rest of class to work on our sites. I focused on the Directions page.
I got our map into the page and put a link to Google maps. Then I added the footer in and put the tractor on top of it. Each page will have the tractor in a different position on the footer.

Week 7 Outside of Class
This weekend, Nicole, Megan, and I all got together and worked on our site. I worked on the Schedule page and the Attractions page.
I got the pictures placed into the attractions page and made apples for bullet points. I also extended the navigation our a little further so it wasn't competing with the title. The paragraph at the bottom is not finished yet and the footer needs to be added into it.
On the schedule page, I got the footer onto it and switched the color of the hover states for the navigation. We also changed the color of all our text to gray. Nicole worked on the home page and the map for the contact/directions page and Megan worked on the contest page. Then we linked all of our pages to the navigation so you can click through what each page looks like so far.
Megan also worked more on the Contest page.
Megan said, "Here is a picture (rough draft) of what I worked on Thursday night (I worked on adding images into the placeholder boxes and added more content)." The pink boxes were just to show her where her wrapper and divs are - they will be removed later.

Week 7 Outside of Class
Outside of class, Nicole worked on more graphics for the website.
Megan also started working on a Contest page since we decided to merge "Directions" and "Contact" into one page.
Megan said, "I have been working on the new page of code for our website. I have been having a hard time trying to get the images with the text to organize in a horizontal line. It seems like an easy task but I just think I am doing something wrong. I was however able to get the text to all align on the left side of the page, which is something that I was trying to accomplish earlier."

Week 7A
Today in class we had a brief lecture on Content Management Systems. Then we had the rest of class to work on our websites. I worked on the Schedule and Attractions page.
I put the list of activities for kids and adults into the page and made "Attractions & Food" bigger.
On the schedule page I pushed the content further into the middle and made "Schedule" bigger.
We now are thinking of another navigation to do on the home page because our current one opens weird on different computers. Nicole worked on graphics and the home page today and Megan worked on our new "Contest" page. We are creating this page because we think we are going to combine "Directions" and "Contact" into one page.
