The main people that would be visiting the Hickory Apple Fest website are people with families who are looking to take their family to a fun event.
Nicole called the Hickory Apple Fest but unfortunately said that she could not get ahold of anyone at the festival. She called four times and left two messages and never heard anything back. This unfortunately meant that we had to make educated guesses on the questions given to us, which we did not have any problems with since the point of the website was very clear.
Megan wrote the 500 word design plan.
The goal
for the reconstruction of design for the hickory apple festival is to create a
website that is family friendly, easy to navigate through, upbeat and appealing
to the eye. The message should be welcoming and clear in order to keep the
viewer on the page and direct them towards the information they are looking
for.
The feel of the page should be more festive. The main heading looks more
industrial than environmental. The feel of the page should reflect the elements
of different types of events that are held at the festival. These events should
relate to people of all ages. Thinking of how a festival is set up, booths are
everywhere along with signs and banners. Everything is appealing to people whom
just wander around a festival. The crisp air and the aroma of the baked apple
goods give this festival a feeling of home.
With the redesign of the webpage, the images will be concise and clear and not
pixilated. The images within the page will also be more abstract instead of
just having square images around the content. The backgrounds will be clean and
possibly a solid color which will allow the content to be more noticeable. The
backgrounds will not change between each link, allowing the viewer to remain
close to the design of the homepage. Keeping everything relatively similar is
important for a website. This way the viewer knows that they are staying on the
same page and will feel secure knowing that they have not fallen astray from
the website they wanted to visit.
The main page will include valuable contact information including email addresses,
locations, parking directions and events. Events and their times will be able
to be linked to other sections of the page with more information about each
event. The message on the main page will reflect a happy and welcoming
fair-like festival. Neutral colors will be used to represent a nature feel,
relating to apples since the festival is all about apples. Images that will be
used for the home page will include types of foods, drinks and knick-knacks
that are being promoted and given away.
Emotions that are relevant to this website should reflect a happy environment
for families and people of all ages. To make this website fun, different uses
of imagery will be used to catch the attention of viewers of all ages. To keep
the website professional, cliché images of apples will be used minimally. There
are other ways to show events that occur at the apple fest.
The message of a family-based event will be portrayed
with the use of family pictures and images of children participating in
different apple-related activities. Emotions that can be expected from viewing
the newly redesigned website will be uplifting, happy and excited to go and
visit such a fun filled apple festival. The viewers should be able to see that
this festival is family-oriented and feel secure while navigating through
different events on the apple harvest website.
